Samsung Is Getting Into The Smart Cars Race Too

Samsung is the latest tech firm that has signaled its intent to enter the smart car business. The company’s executives recently sat down and discussed similar moves by its rivals such as Apple and Google and decided to do something about it.

Samsung’s Plans to Enter the Smart Car Business

According to the company, Samsung will be assembling a team comprising of the best automobile engineers, producing next-generation auto parts for carrying out functions such as in-car entertainment, satellite navigation and autonomous driving technologies, in order to capture this newest yet still nascent market segment.

However, it should be noted that since the company has several divisions, including three core ones (listed below), smart cars are not going to be a part of it. It will however, extend to a whole new division and will be able to provide products ranging from units, to entertainment screens.

Samsung’s current three primary business divisions are as follows:

  1. Smartphones
  2. Components
  3. Consumer-electronics

Details about Samsung’s Smart Car Division

The smart car division of Samsung will be led by Park Jong-Hwan, who is serving as the Executive Vice President of the company. This shift in the company’s decision most likely came when Samsung announced last month that it participated in the Audi Progressive SemiConductor Program (PSCP) as the first semiconductor memory supplier. However, the company has not disclosed information on when it plans on releasing its first ever vehicle capable of carrying out all of these sophisticated functions.
